Our 2015 look-back-list!
Nostalgic post alert! On this day last year we were teaching our very first class. Jan. 10, 2015 feels like yesterday and at the same time it feels like years ago when we reflect on all that has happened. In our first 365 days of teaching we:
- Taught young dancers their very first reels and jigs
- Added adult programming to our classes
- Expanded into two regular studios (thanks Halifax Dance and Maritime Dance Academy & Maritime Theatre School)
- Received the very first feis medal won by a Rising Tide dancer, shared the day with a beginner at her first feis, and attended our first North American Irish Dance Championships and Eastern Canadian Oireachtas – and had our first world qualifier!
- Enjoyed workshops with experts Claire Leger and Emily Penner
- Made our TV and magazine debuts (thank you The Irish Dancing Magazine,CelticLife.ca, Global Halifax and WTV)
- Performed for crowds on Saint Patrick’s Day, at the Halifax Celtic Festival and at Northwood Halifax
- Held our first ever recital
- Missed one parade due to icy roads (but are now all the more excited for 2016)
- Celebrated holidays in class and had socials – including movie night on a big screen!
- Taught students from Nova Scotia – and Newfoundland!
- Had help from friends and fellow dancers to teach classes with us
- Broke in new dance shoes in solidarity with many of our students!
- Met wonderful people from our students and their families, to colleagues in the Irish dance community and everyone we’ve worked with along the way!
- Worked hard!
- Had fun!
- Grew as Irish dancers!
